Taking cues from the great masters, sepia tones of old Hollywood, Chinese opera, cityscapes and countryside, designers are paying close attention totexture, contrast and color for fall 2011 – pairing menswear with feminine twists, warm prints with cool metals, incorporating both old and new influences, and creating an intriguing balance between colors. A statement necklace can be feminine and romantic. It is all in the style. The Cordoba Collection by Lisa Robin Jewelry.
Handcrafted in oxidized sterling silver and gold, and set with gorgeously colorful gemstones, the earrings, pendants, and bracelets in the new collection were inspired by a Spanish embroidery design made popular by Catherine of Aragon, first wife of England’s King Henry VIII. The collection takes its name from the city of Córdoba, Spain, once the intellectual center of the West, with a history dating back to the Roman Empire.
The designs feature artful leaf motifs and graceful symmetrical curves, accented with tastefully subtle gemstone orbs. Like all Lisa Robin pieces, they give off a tactile aura; just looking at the jewelry makes you want to reach out and run your fingers over it.
The collection’s tagline—“Romance every day”—is a nod to Córdoba’s Roman past and to the sense of allure every woman should feel when she puts on a beautiful piece of jewelry, whether she’s simply going to work or dressing up for a special night out. And naturally, the Cordoba Collection designs will please men hunting for gifts for their wives and girlfriends, too, especially at retail price points between $160 and $1400.
This collection is so special to me because one of my most romantic travel experiences was in Spain. The designs have captured the magic of those memories.
I was in NYC as a finalist in the Jewelers of America Mort Abelson new Designer of the Year Award. I was so honored to be one of the 10 finalists. Congratulations to Robert Kaylor who was given the honor. Arrived a few days early to, as I heard it said, eat-shop-repeat. The weather finally broke yesterday in after several days of close to 100 degrees.Cool cotton sundresses were the only way to go. Stack rings have become a staple for me.
“It’s a prestigious thing,” Cindy Edelstein told me. Cindy is the designer consultant for the show and former fashion editor of JCK magazine, one of the industry’s leading trade publications. “The New Designer Gallery has been the starting point for designers forever.”
Appearing in the New Designer Gallery is literally a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I can only be showcased here once and as an exhibitor in the gallery, I will be eligible to win the Mort Abelson New Designer of the Year Award. The winner will be named on July 25 from the list of very talented designers. It looks like I have some steep competition. Wish me luck!
