Its official, it’s launched. After a couple weeks of whirlwind photography, Photoshop and website building, I am excited about moving ahead with marketing and sales. The response is encouraging and sales are ringing up. And I am exhausted. Oh well, no rest for the entrepreneur.
I have been talking to friends about this jewelry business for six months. Always received with interest, I describe the materials; sterling silver, gemstones. I tell them about the process of finding a jeweler to manufacture for me from my own designs and that I will have an online store. And then often there is a nod, a smile and some encouraging words or best wishes. After listening to me repeatedly and even telling the story himself when asked what I am up to, my husband Doug has dubbed this the “macaroni jewelry response”. His observation is most people don’t really take any of it very seriously. I suppose folks envision something more of a hobby. Well, I am ready to show everyone I don’t intend this to be a hobby.
My local trunk show kicked off this week with a launch party co-hosted with my first official representative, Lisa Mullen. Lisa represents a clothing line and we both believe the pairing of the two will be successful. I wrote up my first orders…so I think this business might be real.
Jewelry samples started rolling in about ten days ago and they look spectacular. The designs are stunning to see in sterling. The line is a combination of three sizes of sterling silver medallions and combined with gemstone “drops”. The medallions have a different pattern on each side, intended to be worn with either design showing. Two sizes of hoops earrings offer the ability to add medallion or gemstone drops which are removable, and could be worn on a chain as a necklace. The design concept offers flexibility of looks and it is being received well, actually referred to several times as “smart”. I have always kept in my personal collection of jewelry several pendants and different styles and lengths of chains that I have mixed to create different looks. Carrying a small number of pieces, I have always been able to accessorize well while traveling. That concept was my starting point and the line is truly a reflection of my original vision.

Congratulations! Starting a small business is not an easy feat. But things that start small eventually grow fast. A lot of hardwork, patience and perseverance are needed to hit big. Good luck!

I attended the trunk show and launch party for Lisa Robin Jewelry and have to say I was really impressed. Lisa did a great job with the jewelry design, so much so, that it took me about 2 hours to determine which pair of earrings I wanted. Needless to say, I am excited about my new earrings and even more excited for Lisa to launch her wonderful jewelry line.
